Baptism is the foundational sacrament in the life of a Catholic, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith. Through the waters of baptism, we are cleansed of original sin, reborn as children of God, and welcomed into the Church community. This sacrament unites us with Christ and incorporates us into His Body, the Church, as stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1267: "Baptism makes us members of the Body of Christ: 'Therefore... we are members one of another.'" As we receive this sacrament, we are called to live out our faith, participating fully in the life of the Church and growing in our relationship with God.
Baptism Preparation for Children from Infancy up to Kindergarten
Parents seeking baptism must be registered at St. Mary's and actively participating members of the parish prior to the Baptism. If registered in another parish, the parents must have a letter of permission from the pastor of their home parish.
Families are required to attend a Baptism Class at either St. Mary's or another parish if it is your first child that is being baptized. If you have attended preparation classes elsewhere, you need to provide St. Mary's with a Certificate of Attendance.
Baptism classes at St. Mary's take place on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Pastoral Center. Please get in touch with the parish office at 508-845-6341 for more information or to sign up for the baptism class.
