Pinwheels for Peace:
On September 21, the students of St. Mary School joined millions of children around the world in celebrating International Day of Peace by participating in the Pinwheels for Peace project. Students decorated paper pinwheels with words, drawings and symbols that captured their thoughts and visually expressed their visions of peace.
The pinwheels were “planted” on the grassy hillside in front of the school in the shape of a giant peace sign. Our school day began with the scripture reading of the Sermon on the Mount (Mt 5, 1-12), followed by a prayer for World Peace. The photo below shows some of our students with the giant peace sign.
Please visit www.pinwheelsforpeace.com to learn more about this international project. Once on the website, locate St. Mary School on the Pinwheel Locations map by zooming in on North America, and then zooming closer and closer to reach and click on the marker for our school. Click on 2009 Pinwheel Galleries to view photos of our school’s pinwheel peace sign. Hopefully, as the students’ dreams of peace spin in the wind their message will be carried throughout the land. May Peace Prevail on Earth.
