Parent Information
Book Orders
Your child will be bringing home a form to order books each month. If you wish to order, simply fill out the form and send a check written out to Scholastic Books. These orders are provided for a convenient way for parents to buy quality books at a low price. As an added bonus, for every order we earn bonus points which are used to purchase books for the classroom.
Birthdays
Birthdays are very special! We are happy to help the children celebrate in school. Treats (cupcakes, cookies, brownies, popsicles, ice cream cups, fruit, cheese and crackers) may be sent to school. Due to students' food
allergies, please send items labeled with ingredients. Also, the birthday child may come to school out of uniform on their special day. Weekend birthdays have the option of picking Friday or Monday to be out of uniform.
We will set aside days at the end of the school year to celebrate summer birthdays. Party invitations may only be passed out in school if your child is inviting the whole class, all the boys, or all the girls.
Changes in Transportation
A note must be sent to school if there is to be a change of transportation. Please do not rely on your child to deliver the message to us. If no written note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
Clothing
Please label all clothing. Keep in mind that all our uniforms are alike and that we often take our sweatshirts off during the day.
Communication
Most school notices will be sent home in the weekly envelope sent home every Wednesday. All kindergarten communication will go home your child's folder, and all return information should come back in their folder. Our e-mail addresses are listed below. Please feel free to e-mail us if you have a question or concern.
Homework
Although children may not come home with specific homework assignments, it is always beneficial to go over any skills that we have been working on in the classroom, such as letter-sound recognition, number recognition, counting, reading booklets they make, etc. We also encourage reading daily to your child.
Illness:
When your child is going to be absent from school, please call the office by 8:00am. Any work that we feel your child needs to make will be sent home after your child is feeling better. If your child is out for only a day, some to the missed papers may be made up in school.
Lunch/Snack:
Snacks are eaten during morning recess. Please let your child know what you would like him/her to have for a healthy snack. Also, we have asked the children to bring home any food they do not eat at lunch to keep you aware of what they are eating.
Outdoor Recess:
The children will be going out for recess everyday unless it is raining or extremely cold. Please keep this in mind when dressing your child.
Parent/Teacher Relationship
We believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for school success. Throughout the year we will communicate through letters, notes, telephone calls and newsletters. In November we will hold our parent/teacher conference. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to send a note or call us at the school. The Kindergarten phone number is the same as the school number (842-1601).
Parent Participation
Volunteering is encouraged by all parents at St. Mary's. Classroom volunteers are invited weekly. We will refer to our volunteer form you have already completed. There are many other opportunities to volunteer at St. Mary's through our Parents Association.
School Attendance:
Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is important for his/her success. Most kindergarten learning is group oriented and involves interaction with classmates. It is difficult to make up work at home.
School Hours:
School officially begins at 8:25am. If your child arrives after that time, they will be marked tardy. Recess is at 10:30am each day. Lunch is at 12:15. Dismissal is at 2:40pm.
