After working as a Reading Tutor in the Harvard Reading Lab and at Palfrey Street Alternative High School in Watertown, I accepted a job as a Learning Disabilities Specialist in the Medfield Public Schools. I instructed children ranging from pre-kindergarten through grade 8 in a resource room setting. After many years as a stay-at-home Mom, I became a substitute teacher at St. Mary School. Eventually a teaching position opened up in First Grade, and twelve years later I feel blessed to work each day in a job I love.
I have always enjoyed school, whether I was the student or the teacher, and I want to pass on that genuine love of learning to my students. Above all, I hope my sincere love and concern for them as special individuals shines through. Every day brings something new and exciting as we discover what makes each child unique, both as a person and as a learner. Teaching First Grade has felt like "coming home”. What other job has such fringe benefits as hugs, compliments, giggles, smiles, and fun!
My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my family which includes my husband, Tom, and my two sons, Tommy and Michael, graduates of St. Mary School. Tommy is in his final year at Boston College Law School, and Michael works for a software consulting company. The king of the household is our adorable Norfolk Terrier named Riley. Reading is an addiction for me, and I belong to a Book Club that meets monthly. I also enjoy taking long walks, playing tennis, and relaxing at the beach with my friends and family.
