St. Mary's - Pastoral Council

The mission of the Pastoral Council is tprovide leadership for the parish community as it directs attention tthe other six essential elements of parish life: evangelization, worship, word, community, service, and stewardship. The work of the Pastoral Council is tseek and document the opinions, attitudes, and ideas of the total parish community; tdpastoral planning for the good of the entire parish by appraising its spiritual and physical needs; tdevelop goals and objectives and assign priorities; tengage in on-going consultation with the pastor.

The Pastoral Council consists of parish clergy and professional staff, the school principal, heads of the lay ministries and twelve elected or appointed members representing a cross section of the parish adult population.

Pastoral Council meetings are generally held on the second Wednesday of each month, September thru June, at 7:00 PM, in the Pastoral Center.

Ensure all future agenda topics are focused around the objectives/work of the council:
- To seek and document the opinions, attitudes and ideas of the total parish community
- To do pastoral planning for the good of the entire parish by appraising its spiritual and physical needs
- To develop goals, objectives and assign priorities
- To engage in on-going consultation with the pastor

Pastoral Council Goals: Bob T & Greg M 7:10 – 8:05

Each month focus on making progress on the below goals, one at a time
- Discuss what support needed from the Council
- Brainstorm for new ideas, next steps, what more do we need
Current goals
- Building Faith Community (ideas from last meeting)
  - Adult Education
  - Bible Study
  - Why go to Mass? ‘Ask Father’ series of questions?
  - Teach Families
  - What is the model of a Catholic?
  - Use Bulletin – Create the WHY corner?
  - Face Book opportunities, Media Ministry
  - Being a Catholic at work
  - Staying connected with new baptisms
  - Relevance, applying to our daily lives
- Spiritual needs -- LIFE lecture series, Establishing more frequent adoration
- Parish Web Site (Media Ministry) – expanding use, visibility and capabilities
- Stewardship (Time, Talent & Treasure) – encouraging, inviting, training and thanking those in parish functions
- Strong Catholic Family, Strong Catholic Youth
