NEWS FROM HAITI
As members of the Haiti Committee returned from their recent visit to St. Michel’s in Roche-a-Bateau, Haiti they brought with them the greetings and thanks from the people of our sister parish. The people of Roche-a-Bateau are grateful for our parish’s generosity through the long years of twinning and the recent added support through the Farming program, daily Canteen feeding program and the new Grinder. Members of the Haiti Committee will speak at the Masses on November 5/6 to share their experiences.
Social justice meeting - October 25
Haiti project. Refugee ministry. And more. Everyone is invited to join us for the next meeting of our social justice ministry on Tuesday, October 25 from 7 to 8 pm in the Large Meeting Room on the second floor of the new addition. We'll receive updates on the trip made by our Haiti team to St. Michel's, our sister parish in Roche-a-Bateau, hear about other ways we can help the 27 people we're working with through our Refugee Welcome Ministry to adjust to their new lives. We'll get updates on the Item of the Month and our many other activities. And we'll begin planning for 2012. Thanks to everyone who has found a way to support these ministries. Hope you can join us.
The Catholic Church and Immigration
On October 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., St. Rose of Lima Church in Northborough will host Kevin Appleby, director of the policy and public affairs office of Migration and Refugee Services with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He will speak about the position of the U.S. Catholic bishops on immigration reform as well as the public discussion of immigration. All are welcome.

Shrewsbury’s Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil

The Shine a Light National Lung Cancer Vigil is an event to honor loved ones, increase disease awareness, and further grassroots efforts to secure a more comprehensive plan for lung cancer research funding. Mass of Remembrance & Breakfast
Saturday, November 5, 2011 ~ 8:30 a.m.
In November, we set aside time to remember our brothers and sisters who have been called home to Christ. A memorial book will be placed on the altar, and parishioners are invited to write the names of their loved ones in it so that we can remember them at Mass throughout the month.
On Saturday, November 5th, the parish will also celebrate a special Mass of Remembrance at 8:30 a.m. The names of parishioners who have died this past year will be read and a candle will be lit in their memories. The names and candles will remain on the altar for the remainder of the month.
Immediately following Mass, the parish will host a breakfast in the parish hall. All are invited. RSVP to our parish secretary at the Pastoral Center – 508-845-6341 by Tuesday, November 1st if you plan on attending the breakfast.
GATHER US IN 2011 - “WOMEN’S CONFERENCE”
Gather Us In 2011 will take place on Saturday, November 5 at the DCU Center, 50 Foster St. in Worcester. All Diocesan women and guests are invited to participate in this day-long event featuring presentations and workshops on women’s maturing spirituality. This year, Liz Walker and Kathy Sherman will join us as keynote speakers. There will be four additional workshops and great speakers with plenty of time for discussion; so come and be inspired. The $50 registration fee for adults and $25 for high school and college students includes lunch. The day will closes with Mass celebrated by Most Reverend George E. Rueger. Item of the Month: Dinner Helpers
This month we are collecting dinner helpers, some examples include Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper, or a taco/fajita kit. Every dinner helper collected will help put a meal on the table for a family right here in Shrewsbury. We are up to over 100 dinners! Please help us collect over 200 dinner helpers so that many families will receive one. Thank you!
