Mass of Welcoming and Reception

This Sunday at 11:00 am we will celebrate a Mass of Welcoming for people and families who have joined St. Mary’s over the past year. We welcome you warmly to our parish community and hope you will find a spiritual home with us and opportunities to grow in your faith. Following Mass please join us for a light reception in the New Gathering Space.

ST. MARY’S SHINING STARS

Shining Stars is an opportunity for parishioners to recognize other parishioners for their stewardship actions and deeds. Do you want to say “thanks” or acknowledge a parish member for being a good steward by using their time, talent or treasure to serve others? You may recognize an individual, a family, a couple, a teenager or child. Download a nomination form from the stewardship section of our parish website: click here.

Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

THE SHINING STARS FOR OCTOBER

Tracy Keating & Susan Kitchin
Parish Prayer Line

I would like to acknowledge the good and necessary work done by Tracy and Susan. Week after week they take the time to listen or read the needs of the people of St. Mary’s and publish them in the bulletin. Their work provides comfort to those who use the Prayer line because we know the power of prayer. God bless them both for their fine work.

World Mission Sunday – October 17

Today is World Mission Sunday and Pope Benedict XVI reminds us that we must be a Church committed to bringing the Good News of the Gospel to all people. On this occasion we unite with Catholics throughout the world in a pledge to the missionary task that we all share. We offer our prayers and financial support through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Thank-you for your support through today’s second collection.

This weekend, October 16th and 17th the Respect Life Committee will sponsor a ”Baby Bottle Drive” to help Visitation House. Visitation House is the only Catholic non-profit organization in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that houses pregnant women in crisis. Please take a Baby Bottle and fill it with spare change/dollars. On November 20th and 21st return the Baby Bottles to the church filled with your charitable contributions. Click here to learn more about Visitation House.

St. Mary’s Parishioners,

On behalf of the Knights of Columbus we want to say thank you for your role for a successful Tootsie Roll Drive. All of our efforts would be in vain if we did not have the locations to put them into motion.

The donations that we collected will make for a positive contribution to the Knights of Columbus Charity Fund. The works of charity will be strengthened and ongoing. The recipients, the Special Children, will continue to be able to get their special audio and video equipment, van conversions, special equipment, special education items and countless other aids that the fund has consistently provided for through the generous contributions.

We are proud of our commitment to his program and a sense of pride should be felt by you also for your support.

Thanks you again.
Jim Goodwin, Chairman Jack Pingeton, Co-Chairman

Shrewsbury’s Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil

Join us on Thursday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m. on Shrewsbury Town Common for music, memories and a moment of silence to promote lung cancer awareness and research. The Shine a Light National Lung Cancer Vigil is an event to honor loved ones, increase disease awareness, and further grassroots efforts to secure a more comprehensive plan for lung cancer research funding. Shrewsbury’s first annual “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil” will honor the memory of Ellen Samia, Stephen Heald and Bruce Nattinville and give hope to those in our community currently battling lung cancer. The Shrewsbury Vigil will feature live music by Scott Ricciuti, John Donovan and Jack Cleary.

New Item of the Month: Flour

Thank you for donating over 120 packages of deodorant. This month we will be collecting flour. Our goal is to collect 200 packages of flour so that each food bag, given out at St. Anne's, will include this "special" item. Thank you for your continued support!

MOVING FORWARD

As you know St. Mary’s is now involved in Sharing Our Blessings, an increased giving initiative to strengthen all 100+ parishes in the Diocese of Worcester. In recent weeks our parish has been preparing for the program by recruiting volunteer leadership, updating parish records and producing program materials. Soon all members of the parish will be invited to participate in Sharing Our Blessings. We hope you will respond positively and with generosity.

This past week you received a letter and a brochure from Msgr. Mike describing Sharing Our Blessings and how our parish will be involved. It is an opportunity for all of us to take an active role in the growth of our parish and for each parishioner to practice the principle of stewardship – giving back a portion of our blessings to God. The following information from past annual finance reports shows the trends in giving for the Sunday Offertory and why it is important for us to strengthen our weekly giving at this time

TRENDS IN GIVING - ST. MARY’S SUNDAY OFFERTORY

Year Weekly Average in Sunday Offertory
2004 $14,200
2005 $14,200
2006 $15,100
2007 $15,800
2008 $15,200
2009 $15,000
2010 $14,300

On Commitment Weekend, November 13 & 14 each parishioner will be asked to make a commitment to the parish’s regular collection. Please pray about your participation in this important effort.

We also encourage you to consider using PARISHPAY for your support of St. Mary’s. Over 150 parishioners are using this electronic form of giving and have found it to be the most effective way to give. To learn more about ParishPay click here or call Kerry at the Pastoral Center.

  • Benefits you and our parish!
  • Enrollment is friendly and trouble-free
  • Never worry about forgetting to bring your envelope to church

As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace. 1Peter 4:10

Mass of Remembrance & Breakfast
Saturday, November 6, 2010 ~ 8:30 a.m.

In November, we set aside time to remember our brothers and sisters who have been called home to Christ. A memorial book will be placed on the altar, and parishioners are invited to write the names of their loved ones in it so that we can remember them at Mass throughout the month.

On Saturday, November 6th, the parish will also celebrate a special Mass of Remembrance at 8:30 a.m. The names of parishioners who have died this past year will be read and a candle will be lit in their memories. The names and candles will remain on the altar for the remainder of the month.

Immediately following Mass, the parish will host a breakfast in the parish hall. All are invited. RSVP to the Pastoral Center at 508-845-6341 by Monday, November 1st if you plan on attending the breakfast.
