BLESSING OF THE STATUE OF MARY
|
|
On Saturday, October 16 following the 4:30 pm Mass we will gather by the statue of Mary that has been placed on a pedestal outside the main doors of the church in order to bless it. This beautiful marble statue of Mary was given to our parish by Calvary Retreat Center and the Passionist Community prior to their closing. We are grateful to receive this gift from the Passionists in memory of their ministry in the diocese of Worcester. There was always a good relationship between Calvary and St. Mary Parish through the years and many parishioners have attended retreats and programs at the retreat center during their 43 years of ministry. It is a most fitting way to preserve the memory of Calvary at St. Mary’s. The statue was given to the retreat center in memory of William Calvert whom we shall continue to remember in our prayer. |
ST. MARY PARISH ANNUAL REPORT 2010
This past week every parish household received a copy of the St. Mary Annual Report for 2010 which also included the annual financial report. We hope that you have taken the opportunity to see all that we have been able to do at St. Mary’s over the past year. Please take a moment and offer your feedback to the parish pastoral council and finance committee. We thank the Parish Pastoral Council for the annual report and Amy Kotsopoulos for the layout and design. We also thank the members of the Finance Committee for their report and stewardship of our parish resources throughout the year Maria Lemieux (chair), Brian Fay, Peter Larkin, Jamie Quitadamo & Richard Sherman.
Mass of Anointing
Saturday, October 16, 2010 - 12:00 Noon
Fellowship & refreshments following Mass
|
Scripture is filled with examples of Jesus extending his healing to those suffering with physical, emotional or spiritual ailments, and he called his followers to do the same. In the 5th chapter of The Letter of James, we read of this concern for the bodily and spiritual welfare of the sick when St. James wrote, “Are any among you sick? They should call on the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick ... and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.” At 12:00 noon, Saturday, October 16, 2010, St. Mary’s Parish will celebrate a special Mass for the Anointing of the Sick for those who seek healing, including, but not limited to, those acutely or chronically ill, facing surgery, or the frail elderly. Prayer shawls will also be available. |
|
If you need transportation, call Viola Jefferson, Parish Nurse, in the Health Ministry office, 508-925-7647 by October 12th. Please leave your name, address, and phone number, and you will receive a call back confirming your ride.
Those with difficulty walking or using wheelchairs are encouraged to park or be dropped off in the rear, nearest the new addition, to access the church via the new ramps and elevator. We will have greeters outside to guide you.

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH
In the weeks ahead you will be reading more about a new initiative taking place throughout the Diocese of Worcester. The program, Sharing Our Blessings, is an opportunity for all of us to address the most pressing needs in our parish through this increased Sunday offertory initiative. Last year our Sunday collections decreased by 5%. Our hope is to increase our weekly collection by at least 25%. Currently our weekly average is $14,300. To meet our needs in the coming year we hope to increase our weekly income to $17,800. Each week this space in the bulletin will be devoted to reminders and important announcements concerning Sharing Our Blessings.
We are grateful to Bob & Clem McNamara who will be serving as the chaircouple for Sharing Our Blessings in St. Mary Parish. There will be an important meeting for the Team Captains this Tuesday, October 12 at 7:00 pm in the Large Meeting Room in the new parish addition.
Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

To strengthen stewardship at St. Mary’s we ask that you consider using ParishPay as a new and easier way to support our parish. Over 150 parishioners are currently supporting the parish through this electronic method of giving. To learn more about ParishPay click here or call Kerry at the Pastoral Center.

St. Mary’s Knitting Ministry
|
|
This year our Knitting Ministry enters its ninth year. Our prayer shawls are created to be a sign of God’s presence in the here and now; a tangible sense of prayergiven and received. One of our grandchildren said it best: When you get a shawl wrapped around you, think of it as a hug from God. Every shawl is prayed over and blessed by each woman in the ministry, creating a “harvest of hugs” ready to be distributed to those in need of prayer. Today we bless the hands of the women of this beautiful ministry that God may “Prosper the work of their hands,” and as a gentle reminder to all of us that we are called to lend our helping hands to the building up of God’s kingdom. To date, the Knitting Ministry has wrapped 750 people with their shawls. If you know of someone who could use a ‘hug’ (and who doesn’t?), please call Marti Page (508) 835-3470, to make an arrangement. |

All Catholics have the opportunity to fulfill their baptismal responsibility for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through their active participation in the efforts of the four Pontifical Mission Societies: The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Holy Childhood Association, the Society of St. Peter Apostle and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. The first three of these societies seek prayer, sacrifice and financial support for the Church’s missionary work, and provide financial assistance for the pastoral and evangelizing programs of the Church in Africa, Asia, the islands of the Pacific and remote regions of Latin America. This includes aid for the education and support of seminarians, religious novices and lay catechists; for the work of religious communities in education, health care and social services; for communication and transportation needs; for disaster and emergency relief; and for the Church’s ministry to children. Your generosity in this collection next weekend will nurture the lives and faith of our brothers and sisters in 1,100 mission dioceses. It will also be a source of blessing for our own Diocese as we place evangelization at the heart of our life as Church. With every prayerful best wish, I am Sincerely yours in Christ, |
