Dear Friends, Not long ago I made public the fact that for two years I have been working through a health issue, which recently was diagnosed as Idiopathic CD4 Lymphocytopenia. That conclusion led to enrollment in a study hosted by the National Institutes of Health in Maryland, which seeks to track the effects of “ICL” in people. As part of the screening process for the study extensive further testing was done. Recently the last of the test results were made known to me. The tests results did indicate a minor secondary issue that was treated immediately and resolved. Preliminary results also seemed to indicate a more significant health issue given rise to by the “ICL” condition, but thankfully no additional problems were identified. While the Idiopathic CD4 Lymphocytopenia will merit periodic monitoring, it does seem to be a stable situation and my overall health seems to be good. I continue to be very thankful for the expressed concern of so many in the St. Mary’s parish family, the prayers offered for my sake, the notable efforts of health care professionals and most of all for the ongoing assistance of our gracious and loving Lord. Prayerful Best Wishes, |

Eating locally and eating in season are two of the most important parts of a sustainable diet, and they really go hand in hand. Eating locally allows you to minimize the number of food miles your purchases travel (it is estimated that most produce sold in the US travels 1500 miles before reaching your tableimagine traveling that far for dinner!), and eating in season is the best way to get the most out of a local diet. Also, your best and most available organic produce will be local and, naturally, in season. |
Consider becoming a regular at a local farmers’ market, where the produce is guaranteed to be local and in season. Also, think about what you can grow in your own gardensmall items like garlic and herbs can easily be cultivated during their own growing seasons. By identifying what you can get locally and when it grows, you can minimize your carbon footprint and discover your regional cuisine.

St. Mary’s Goal $175,000
Amount Raised in pledges/gifts $142,010
Number of Gifts 408
Every year during the quieter weeks of summer we usually reach our goal for the annual Partners in Charity Appeal. While there is still plenty of summer left, we would like to encourage those who have yet to make a gift or pledge to please do so in the coming weeks. We have now reached 80% of our goal. While this is encouraging, we still have a way to go before reaching our formidable parish goal of $175,000. Last year by this time in the summer we had raised $160,724 from 455 donors. Please support the works of CHARITY, EDUCATION & MINISTRY throughout the Diocese of Worcester.
Envelopes for your gift/pledge can be found with the bulletins and on the window sills. You may place yours in the collection basket today or mail to the pastoral center during the week. Please be sure to check with your employer about a Matching Gift and attach the form to your pledge card.
