BLESSING OF A CHRISTMAS TREE

Lord our God, we praise you for the light of creation:
the sun, the moon, and the stars of the night.

We praise you for the light of Israel:
the Law, the prophets, and the Scriptures.

We praise you for Jesus Christ, your Son:
He is Emmanuel, God-with-us, the Prince of Peace,
who fills us with the wonder of your love.

Lord God, let your blessing come upon us
As we illumine this tree, may the light and cheer it gives
be a sign of the joy that fills our hearts.

May all who delight in this tree come to the knowledge and joy of salvation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord

BLESSING OF OUTDOOR NATIVITY

The blessing and lighting of the parish outdoor nativity scene and manger will take place on Saturday evening, December 19th immediately following the 4:30 pm Mass. Join us with the Children’s Choir for a few Christmas carols and blessing.

BLESSING OF HOME NATIVITY

Next weekend’s bulletin will include a blessing for all the figures in a traditional nativity set. As you place each figure in the scene, there is a special prayer that you can offer with your family. On Sunday, December 20 we invite children to bring a figure of the Christ Child to the 9:00 am Mass for a special blessing before placing it in their family nativity.

The Christmas Mass schedule will remain the same as it has been for the past years with one exception – because of the construction and more limited parking, the additional 4:30 pm Vigil Mass will take place at St. John’s High School where there is more handicapped parking and easier accessibility

MARY’S FLOWERS

The flowers adorning the statue of our
Blessed Mother are in memory of

Linda Russell

In thanks for her continued good health
Donated lovingly by the family

THANK-YOU to all the parishioners who have made their pledge to the St. Mary’s Capital Campaign. The capital campaign has raised $3.6 million for our current building project, but we will need to raise $1.4 million more to pay off our construction loan from the diocese. Construction is moving along on schedule, and with the masonry work now complete, we can see the impressive addition to our parish and school. We are hopeful that the windows will be in place by the end of the month. If you have not made your pledge and are now ready to do so, we encourage you to take one of the campaign pledge envelopes by the bulletins and return it to the pastoral center. Thank-you for your ongoing support of Our Enduring Covenant.

CHRISTMAS AND YEAR END GIVING

Many people enjoy using Christmas and year’s end as a special time to give to their favorite Catholic institutions and also positively impact their federal and state income taxes. Christmas and year end giving provides many advantages to you

MATCHING GIFTS FOR SUNDAY CONTRIBUTIONS

Two parishioners recently discovered that their employer’s Matching Gifts Program would match their regular Sunday offertory throughout the year up to $1,000. By filling out their company’s paperwork, they were able to double their support of St. Mary’s Parish. Check with your employer on Matching Gift opportunities that you may have.

CHRISTMAS FLOWERS

The December packet of offertory envelopes contains one marked Christmas Flowers. Your offerings will assist us in decorating the church for the Christmas season. Please write the names of family members on the envelope so that we may remember them at Mass.

ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE

A Penance Service for our three cluster parishes – St. Anne’s, St. Mary’s and St. Mary of the Hills – will be held at St. Mary of the Hills this Sunday, December 13 at 3:00pm. Let us come together to celebrate this sacrament of God’s mercy as we continue to prepare for the coming of Christmas.

RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS

Today’s second collection is for the support of the Retirement Fund for Religious. Religious sisters and brothers have cared for others and did so with little concern for themselves. Today tens of thousands of them are now elderly, frail and in need of assistance. The Retirement Fund for Religious, with its theme, Share in the Care,

Supports these men and women who continue to shape the lives and the faith of millions of Americans. It is important that we offer our thanks to these religious who have influenced us so deeply.

HEIFER PROJECT

This Christmas, help to end hunger and poverty, one family at a time. Make this a memorable Christmas by taking part in a growing tradition here at St. Mary's Parish. Give the gift that ends hunger with a hand-up, not a hand out. Instead of material gifts, choose to honor your friends, family or business associates with gifts that help struggling families become self-reliant. Alternative gift giving through Heifer International is the perfect way to share the true meaning of Christmas with the special people in your life.

Donations received are used to provide struggling families world-wide with the lifesaving gift of livestock and training in its care. Visit the Heifer Project table in the vestibule of church to inquire or purchase your gift. Call Corinne Hetzler @ 508.842.2449 with questions. Thank you.

Christmas Choir Invitation – 2009

The St. Mary’s Christmas Choir, which includes St. Mary’s Adult Choir will be singing at midnight this year, and anyone who would like to be part of the festivities is cordially invited to add their voices to the mix. Rehearsals are:

Sunday mornings: December 13 and 20, 9am to 10:30am in the school - 8th grade classroom AND December 22, 7:00 - 9:00PM in the church choir loft. It is extremely important that you are fully engaged by attending all three rehearsals. If you're available on all of these dates, we look forward to having you with us.

Questions please contact

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT

Please take one with you and share with a family member or friend who has moved from the parish.

ECO-JUSTICE MINISTRY

LED Christmas lights use light emitting diodes rather than the traditional miniature incandescent bulbs. LEDs are much like incandescent bulbs except that they do not have a filament inside that can burn out and take the entire string of bulbs with it. LEDs have been around for a long time, but only caught on for use as Christmas lights in recent years. Today you can find LED Christmas lights in all kinds of shapes and sizes. They can blink just like the regular incandescent varieties and come in a wide range of colors. The end result is a string of lights that use about one-tenth of the electrical current of the more commonly used incandescent lights. If you are replacing lights that are wearing out, consider the LED option!

Wrapping paper and cards are major users of paper, and used for only a short period of time. Look for cards and wrapping paper made of recycled paper . Consider creative ways of wrapping gifts that minimize packaging that has to be thrown away.

NEW Women's Ministry ENDOW update

ENDOW Sessions have been finalized and will start in January. Our new ENDOW ministry will begin Friday mornings January 8th from 9-11am in Mary's Room in the Pastoral Center for 8 weeks. If you haven't registered and would like to, please contact Jen Zerwas at zerwasJ@msn.com or at 508.845.3883 or www.endowonline.com Cost is $60.00, materials need to be ordered by end of December. There is still availability.

THANK –YOU FROM VISITATION HOUSE

Dear Msgr. Rose

On behalf of the residents, staff and Board of Directors of Visitation House, I wish to extend our sincere thanks to you, Fr. Adam Reid, Maureen Coghlin, the entire pro-life ministry and last but not least, your parishioners who gave from the heart during the October 2009 St. Mary’s Parish baby bottle fundraiser.

To date, you have raised $5,500 with more bottles to count. That is fantastic and miraculous in these troubled financial times to have such a generous response. It is heartwarming to know that you share the same sentiments as we do, when it comes to saving the innocent unborn.

We are fortunate that you are getting to know us and are willing to support such a great cause. And we are grateful for responding so thoughtfully to our needs. Please extend my thanks to everyone involved.

Wishing you and your Parish family a very Merry Christmas!

In deepest gratitude,
Eve Lindquist
Executive Director
