My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

It is with profound gratitude that I write to express my thanks for the gifts of over 21,000 parishioners who have participated to date in our Annual Partners in Charity Appeal. Please be assured that I am very appreciative of their generosity in assisting the essential charitable, pastoral and educational needs of our wonderful Diocese.

I have asked that our parish priests read this letter at all the Lord’s Day Masses this final weekend of August since we have still not achieved our diocesan goal of $4.8 million dollars and our Appeal concludes on Monday. In fact, as I write, we are about $150,000 short of our diocesan goal.

The 21,000 donors who have already made contributions represent about 20% of the Catholic families of the Diocese. Many others would certainly help us by sharing in this important annual effort. It is my hope that, even at this late date, any who can will contribute through a special second collection taken in all diocesan parishes today. Perhaps those who have already contributed might find it in their hearts to make an additional gift.

We are all very much aware of the needs of thousands of people at this time given our recent economic downturn. I look to you for your generous support in helping them. Please be as generous as you can in this final appeal, each of us remembering in our hearts how good our gracious and loving God has been to us and our loved ones.

With every prayerful best wish, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus
Bishop of Worcester

PUB QUIZ

Last year the team of Tim Daly, Mary Beth Daly, John Calderwood and Ellen Daly - better know as Empty Minds - earned the title of Smartest in the Parish by winning the 5th Annual Pub Quiz at the 2008 Family Festival. Who’s up for challenging them for the title this year? Now’s your chance!

Last year we hosted the Pub Quiz in the biggest tent ever at the Family Festival. And what a success it was! The tent was full, the competition was keen and the woeful singing of Sweet Caroline by 200+ adults was heard across the Festival grounds. Join us this year as the Pub Quiz Committee builds on last year’s success to make the 6th Annual Pub Quiz even better. Click here to get a registration form - register your team before it’s too late!
