PRO-LIFE LICENSE PLATE

There is an effort underway to encourage the state of Massachusetts to create a specialty license plate with the slogan “Choose Life.” Funds generated by a Massachusetts Choose Life plate would assist women with the expenses of a full term pregnancy such as medical bills, temporary housing, food and maternity clothing. Applications will be available at Masses in the weeks ahead in the vestibule of the church and in the church hall. The deadline has been extended to October 31, 2009.

Tong Thai and Piper Nguyen

In honor of their wedding

Join the Jet Setters as they head to the Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant on Wednesday, September 23rd to see "Norman, Is That You"? The cost of this trip is $75 per person and includes a full buffet lunch, show and cabaret. Reservations must be received by August 20th by calling Evelyn 508.845.3511 or Fran 508.842.8567.

Members of Saints Francis & Therese Catholic Worker will be here on the weekend of August 22 and 23, 2009, with our homemade baked goods. The sale of our wholesome bread and muffins, made with organic ingredients, is the main source of income which supports our ministries. We shelter homeless men and women, and we work for justice and peace. There is no set price for the bread as we prefer to depend on your generosity to carry on the works of mercy.

Celebrating Together, Building Our Community!

Can you help us Build Our Community? We’re not asking you to pave the new parking lot, or start excavating for the church addition. We’re just asking for a little help with the 2009 Family Festival! It takes over 1,700 volunteer hours to make the Festival a success. Please be generous with you time and talent, and sign up now to volunteer.

After you sign up to volunteer, test your hand at the Wheel-of-Luck. Buy two Grand Raffle tickets after one of the Sunday masses and spin the Wheel. Winners are entered into a special drawing for FREE Raffle tickets!

And remember, this year you can double your chances of winning and it won’t cost you any more than last year. That’s right – two Grand Raffle Tickets for $100! Or if you prefer, one ticket for $75. Either way, it’s quite a bargain and a great way to put $15,000 in your pocket. And back by popular demand is the same fantastic second prize – four box seats to the Red Sox/Indians game on October 4th and four premium seats to the Patriots/Jets game on November 22nd!

To purchase your tickets, please visit the parish website here. Tickets may also be purchased from the Raffle committee after selected masses. Thanks for supporting St. Mary Parish and School.

ITEMS OF THE MONTH

The Items of the Month are Condiments: Ketchup, Mustard or Relish. (No glass jars, please!) We're halfway there with only 100 more to go. Thank you for your support!

SHARE THE BOUNTY

August is upon us and is usually the time when a huge bounty of vegetables begins to be brought in by generous parishioners for delivery to the Worcester County Food Bank for distribution to those less fortunate in our community. Though the summer weather has been uncooperative for gardeners, Share the Bounty asks for donations of any size (one tomato, one cucumber-- it all adds up!) from your home garden or market or farmstand. A wicker basket is located in the entrance of the church; please drop off your contributions on the weekends only as delivery is each Monday morning. Thank you!

WEDDING CONGRATULATIONS

We extend our congratulations and prayers to Piper Nguyen & Tong Thai who were married at St. Mary’s this Saturday, August 8th. May God bless their lifetime as they live out the sacrament of marriage.

THANK-YOU to parishioners who have been making regular payments on their pledge to Our Enduring Covenant. Progress is being made with our new parking lot and the foundations for the addition are moving right along. We have been enjoying the comfort of our air-conditioned church these past few Sundays, and our new boilers are in place and will be ready to go when the heating season arrives. Pledge envelopes for our capital campaign can be found with the bulletins for parishioners who would like to make a gift or pledge.

ST. MARY PARENTS’ ASSOC UNIFORM SWAP
August 16 and August 23 in the Church Hall from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

You do not need to donate items to participate. You may drop off at Chris Baril’s house, 315 Gulf St. or bring to the swap. Call 508.845.1025 for information.

Work in faith ...
Labor in love ...
Endure in hope!

We have now reached 95% of our parish goal for this year’s Partners in Charity Appeal, but only three more weeks remain for this appeal. THANK-YOU to the many parishioners who have already contributed. If you have not yet had the opportunity to do so, please support this year’s appeal with your gift or pledge in the month of August. Every gift is important to the 29 ministries that are funded each year through Partners in Charity.

St. Mary’s Goal $175,000
Amount Raised $166,477
Number of Gifts 462

Envelopes for your gift/pledge can be found at the entrances of the church and on the window sills. You may place them in the collection basket today or mail to the pastoral center during the week. Please be sure to check with your employer about a Matching Gift and attach the form to your pledge card.
