THE EXPERIENCE OF EASTER

We are an Easter people. The joy of Easter is celebrated not only during the liturgical season we call Easter. It is celebrated every day of the year. The Mass is the Paschal Mystery, and every time it is celebrated, we participate in the sacrifice, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As St. Paul teaches, we die with Christ and rise with Him in the Holy Spirit. We are transformed into new creations. We are renewed.

Stewards of God’s abundant gifts hold dear the promise of renewal and pledge themselves to the work of reconciliation, healing and proclamation of the risen Lord. For Christian stewards, each day is a new dawn for living in the light of Christ. There is much about dying and rising with Christ that we do not know; much about the Paschal Mystery we do not understand. But stewards of God’s love are always open to learning more; to being called out of their ignorance and into the light of faith which comes with an ever-deeper understanding of its peace and joy.

Easter is a good time to reflect on how we experience the joy of Christ’s peace. It is also a time to ask ourselves how we can experience the gift of Easter each day of our lives.

ST. MARY’S BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE

Thursday is Moving Day for Fr. Mike, Fr. Adam and Fr. Leo. As the St. Mary Building Project gets underway, they will be moving to 8 Red Coat Rd. in Shrewsbury. They will now be joining the ranks of the morning commuters making the four minute, 1.5 mile trek to Summer Street. That’s not a bad commute at all compared with how far and how long some people must travel each day! You will be able to contact the priests in the same way you have these past years:

Mailing address: 20 Summer St.
Shrewsbury, MA 01545
Phone Number Pastoral Center at 508.845.6341

You may leave phone messages with the parish secretary or live answering service during the night/weekend. In case of emergency the priests will continue to be available through the pastoral center number.

THANK-YOU to all those parishioners who have recently made their pledge to the Capital Campaign – Our Enduring Covenant. Thanks also to those parishioners who have been faithfully making payments on their pledges. If you have not had an opportunity yet to make your pledge, we encourage you to do so in the coming weeks. Pledge envelopes and brochures can be found with the bulletins or at the pastoral center during the week.

STEWARDS ARE GOD’S SHINING STARS
Stars of Saint Mary’s light our world

SHINING STARS is an opportunity for parishioners to recognize other parishioners for their stewardship actions and deeds. It is a way to say “thanks’ or acknowledge a parish member for living the life of stewardship. Thank-you to those who have already submitted the name of a shining star at St. Mary’s. today we announce April’s shining star:

EILEEN KORPI

Eileen Korpi has been an active member of St. Mary Church for many years. She is a member of the Liturgy Committee, as well as being a Eucharistic Minister and a Greeter. Eileen has also been involved as a sponsor in the RCIA program. One of those she sponsored was her son-in-law, David Hirtle. Eileen is also vice regent of the Daughters of Isabella. Above all, in my opinion, Eileen lives her life as a true follower of Christ. She is a very caring person who is always there for whomever needs her at any time. She lives her faith in every sense.

Work in faith ...
Labor in love ...
Endure in hope!

THANK-YOU to all those who have made their gift over the last two weeks to our annual Partners in Charity Appeal. We are well on our way in this year’s appeal, but we need everyone’s support in order to reach our parish goal of $175,000.

St. Mary’s Goal $175,000
Amount Raised in pledges & Gifts $100,334

Partners in Charity support 29 vital programs which comprise the charitable, educational and ministerial mission of our diocese. Your gift to the appeal this year will provide assistance for the poor, the sick, they young, the disabled, families in crisis, and many thousands more. Our appeal is an opportunity to provide for the needs of others who look to us for hope. Please reflect on the blessings you have received from God as you contemplate a gift to the Partners in Charity Appeal this year. Please put the gift/pledge envelope you received in the mail in with today’s offertory collection. You may also use one of the envelopes found on the window sills.

HOSPITAL VISITS AND COMMUNION CALLS

Fr. Mike and Fr. Adam make regular visits to the UMass –Memorial and St. Vincent Hospitals each week to visit parishioners who are patients there. Because of patient privacy laws, they do not always know if a parishioner has been hospitalized. Please call the Pastoral center to let us know if a family member or neighbor has been hospitalized or is a patient in a local rehabilitation and nursing center. If you are confined to your home due to illness or age, please call us at the pastoral center so that the priests and Vi Jefferson, our parish nurse, may visit you with communion.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES PILGRIMAGE PETITIONS

Ron Thompson, a member of our parish, will be making a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France from April 29th until May 6th with The Order of MALTA. As Knight of MALTA he has volunteered to bring petitions from the parishioners of St. Mary’s with him to the Grotto at Lourdes. Anyone who would like to submit a prayer petition for their particular needs may obtain a form in the sacristy.

Please return all completed forms by April 26th, 2009. Ron will hand carry these petitions with him on his trip to Lourdes. If you have any additional questions call Ron at 508.842.5132.

Dear St. Mary School Families,

As many of you may already know, National Headlining Comedian Mike Birbiglia is a St. Mary School alumnus. Mike is currently appearing off-Broadway (presented by Nathan Lane) in a one man show, “Sleepwalk with Me.” He has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The View, The Bonnie Hunt Show, in three Comedy Central Specials and has two critically acclaimed albums.

Plans were in the works to have Mike visit St. Mary School later this month. Scheduling issues have postponed this event but there is still an opportunity to catch Mike’s show. Mike will be performing with Comedian Jane Condon during April vacation on Wednesday April 22, 2009 in Providence RI. The event is a fundraiser for the Brown Play School which Mike’s sister is affiliated with. If anyone has an interest in attending, please contact Sira Naras in the Advancement Office naras@stmarysparish.org for more information and an evite. The donation is $55.00 per person and includes the Comedy Show and a delicious Italian Buffet dinner.

Come out for a night of laughs, come out to support education, and come out to support an SMS alumnus. You can visit Mike’s website at www.birbigs.com

HELP SAVE GLAVIN CENTER

Our friends from the Galvin Center need our help. Their home is threatened with closure, Many of you know these special friends from seeing them at local supermarkets or at parish fairs. The solution proposed is placing them in group homes but for many, due to physical problems, this is not feasible. Where would they go? To nursing homes? To most, who have lived at Glavin for many many years, the center is their “home” and the staff is their “family”. There are many ways to help the state’s fiscal problems which have not been considered. Do we have to deprive our most vulnerable citizens of their home? There will be an opportunity after each Mass to sign a petition asking Governor Patrick to reconsider this decision . Thank you for your help and God bless you all!

Colombian Project

Father Manny and the members of the Colombian Project send a heart-felt thank you to all of the people who purchased tickets for the Colombian Easter Basket. A raffle was held at St. Mary of the Assumption in Milford as well as here. The out pouring of support from both parishes was outstanding! Please know that, even though your ticket may not have been chosen, your kindness and generosity will enable two Colombian children, whose families cannot afford the cost of education, to attend six years of high school. Congratulations to Virginia Sheehan of Shrewsbury for purchasing the lucky ticket.
