Dear Friends,
The season of Christmas reaches its conclusion with today’s celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. I join Fr. Adam, Fr. Leo and the entire parish staff in extending to your our continued prayers and best wishes for a happy, healthy new year. I also thank you for your many gestures of kindness and care through the days of Christmas for your cards and candy, cookies and gifts. We have enjoyed and shared them all!
So many people have shared their gifts and talents this Christmas season so that our parish community could celebrate the fullness of Jesus’ birth. Without their gifts so willingly shared, we would not have been able to celebrate the Christmas liturgies with such beauty and joy. A special word of thanks to RicK Vacca, our director of music, Marti Page, adult choir director, for all their efforts in preparing our Christmas music. Thank-you to the members of the adult choir and children’s choirs, Jan Capello, Mary Larue, Kristin DeFosse, Stephanie Sarkisian, Paul Gannon, Rick Zinkus, cantors and musicians for bringing us the sounds of Christmas. Thank you to Dawn Guarino and the Art & Environment committee for their tremendous efforts decorating the church for Advent and Christmas, to those who set up our outdoor crèche. Thank-you to all who served as liturgical ministers lectors, ministers of communion, altar servers, greeter, ushers, Mass coordinators and leaders of Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Thank-you to Mary Cote and Catherine Cote for coordinating our Christmas pageant on Christmas Eve and Ann Tomashefsky for leading the Children’s Pageant choir. Thank-you to all who work in our school and religious education program for helping our children and youth understand the true meaning of Christmas. Thank-you to Maryann Damico and all who assisted in coordinating the Giving Tree and delivering gifts for over 600 people. Thank-you to the volunteers who visit the nursing home and the homebound and bring comfort to people who are no longer able to be with us at Mass. And thank-you to all the staff members of St. Mary’s for all that you do throughout the year.
God Bless you all!
Fr. Mike

PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE NEW YEAR
|
|
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION is held every Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Pastoral Center Chapel. So that we can be assured that there is always someone in the chapel during these hours, we are in need of some more volunteers to commit themselves to being present for one-half hour each week, especially between the hours of 10:00 am 12:00 noon. Click here for more information. To volunteer please sign your name in the book which can be found in the chapel. |
Come and Pray the ROSARY on Monday evenings at 7:30 pm in the pastoral center chapel.
Praying the rosary and rosary meditation promote positive thinking and helps our minds become more united with God. Some of the benefits of praying the rosary include:

Thank-you for your ongoing support of St. Mary’s Parish
Month of December (weekly average) $15,002
Retirement Fund for Religious $4,850
Christmas $28,250
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED PARISH PAY?
As we begin the new year this might be just the right time for you to consider making your weekly donations to St. Mary’s Parish through ParishPay. Parishioners who use ParishPay find that it is the easiest way to offer their consistent support of our parish. Find out how ParishPay works by checking the parish website (click here) or call Kerry at the Pastoral Center.
A SPECIAL OFFERING FOR FUEL
During the winter months (January thru March) you will find an additional envelope in your monthly packet marked “a special offering for fuel”. This extra boost in income helps to defray the increased cost of fuel and utilities that St. Mary’s and all of us experience at this time of year. Thank-you for your support.
CHILDREN’S ENVELOPES
Boxes of Children’s Envelopes are available this weekend at the entrances of the church. Parents are encouraged to form their child/children in the life of Christian stewardship and share a bit of their “treasure” with our parish community. We thank those children who use their special envelopes every week at Mass.

Members of Saints Francis and Therese Catholic Worker will be here this weekend, January 10th and 11th with our homemade baked goods. The sale of our wholesome bread and muffins, made with organic ingredients, is the main source of income which supports our ministries. We shelter homeless men and women, and we work for justice and peace. Following the tradition of Saint Francis, there is no set price for the baked goods. We prefer to depend on your generosity to carry on the works of mercy.
RESPECT LIFE NEWS

On Thursday, January 22nd the March for Life will take place in Washington, D.C. St. Mary’s is hopeful to full a bus (55 people) to travel to Washington on Wednesday evening, January 21st after the 7:30pm Mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Worcester. The buses will return early on the morning of Friday, January 23rd. The Cost of the trip is $60 per person (financial assistance is available) for registrations received by December 31st. After December 31st the fee is $70 per person. Final registration deadline is January 13th or as long as space permits. This year we would like to have a family bus teen and family adult members. For further information please contact: Dr. John Harding at 508.845.9237 or Maureen Coghlin at 508.842.8270. |
The “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA) is a proposed bill before the US Congress which poses the most serious threat to pro-life policies ever faced. This bill would bring about a national abortion policy creating a right to abortion with no limits whatsoever, eliminate even modest regulation of the abortion industry, force American taxpayers to fund abortions, reverse the ban on the partial-birth abortion procedure, trample the conscience rights of physicians and other health care workers and institutions that oppose abortion, and strip parents of their right and responsibility to be involved in their minor daughter’s abortion decision. The U.S. Bishop’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities has approved a campaign to oppose the Freedom of Choice Act. A postcard signing opportunity will be provided in dioceses nationwide the weekend of January 24-25.

The Giving Tree Committee thanks everyone who donated Christmas gifts, food vouchers, etc. this season. Once again your generosity was overwhelming. You brightened Christmas for hundreds of families in the Worcester/Shrewsbury area. We needed two cars more than last year to transport all the gifts to Catholic Charities. Thanks again.

CHRISTMAS THANKS FROM CATHOLIC CHARITIES
|
December 19, 2008 Dear Parishioners, On behalf of the staff and guest at Youville House Family Shelter, I would like to thank you for your generous donation of clothing and toys for the children. Your thoughtfulness will make the children’s Christmas happier and brighter. It is through donations like yours that we are better able to assist those in need in our program. Again, thank you for thinking of us and Happy Holidays. Sincerely, |
STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT BAPTISM OF THE LORD
“Thus says the Lord: Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one with whom I am pleased.” (Is 42:1) At our own Baptism, each of us became a servant of the Lord. God has chosen us and equipped us to do special work for Him. Everything that we accomplish in this life is a direct result of all that God has given to us. The question is: Are we accomplishing the things God put us here to do? Are we acting as God’s servant or are we only serving our own needs? Is God pleased with the way we are fulfilling His special plan for us?
THANK-YOU FROM ST. ANNE’S HUMAN SERVICES

Please put a notice in the bulletin to let people know that we serviced 265 families for Christmas. Thank you for all you do and who you are. Love & Peace, |
