OUR ENDURING COVENANT - MAKE YOUR PLEDGE IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER

THANK-YOU to all those parishioners who made their pledge to St. Mary’s Capital Campaign during the month of October. We encourage parishioners who have not made a pledge to Our Enduring Covenant to please do so during the month of November. In a recent letter to pastors Bishop McManus has asked parishes to be prudent in undertaking expansion projects in light of the current economic crisis. Fr. Mike met with Bishop McManus this week and it is the bishop’s recommendation that we move forward with our capital campaign and the scaled back renovation/expansion which was outlined in the bulletin over the past two weeks. Construction is still scheduled to begin in June of 2009. We will meet with the Shrewsbury Planning Board again this Thursday, November 6 for final approval of our plans. Thank-you for your ongoing support of Our Enduring Covenant.

STEWARDSHIP AT ST. MARY’S PARISH

THANK-YOU to the many parishioners who took part in last week’s celebration of STEWARDSHIP AT ST. MARY’S. We are grateful for the many, many ways the people of St. Mary’s live out their discipleship through a generous sharing of time, talent and treasure. As the banners which represent the works and ministries of our parish hang in the Church, let us pray that we may continue to live our lives as faithful stewards of all that God has entrusted to us. For more information on all the ministries at St. Mary’s, please go to the parish website – www.stmarysparish.org. This weekend’s celebration of All Souls Day reminds us that all of life and every day we live are gifts from God. As we pray for our deceased family members and parishioners, let us take TIME to express our gratitude to God for our lives. The Stewardship Committee looks forward to a special Stewardship opportunity that will be announced at the Masses on the weekend of November 15/16 as we listen to the gospel story of the Parable of the Talents. See the posters in the vestibule of the church.

HAITIAN APOSTOLATE MINISTRY
DIOCESE OF WORCESTER AND ST. MARY’S PARISH

The late summer hurricanes that battered Haiti caused huge crop loss in a country already suffering from a food crisis from the global rises in the price of commodities. The people of Haiti had hoped that the dramatic increase in food prices would be offset by a good harvest. That harvest has been largely destroyed. Estimates of crop losses are as high as 80 percent in the most heavily hit sections of Haiti, especially in Les Cayes. Another crop has now been planed with the hope that is makes it through the season. The people of Haiti are brave and resilient, but they are counting on our prayers and assistance to help them find life again.

Sister Marie-Judith Dupuy, S.S.A., Director of the Diocese of Worcester Haitian Apostolate will be speaking at each Mass the weekend of November 8 and 9. Sr. Marie-Judith will be returning from Haiti to give us an update on our twinning relationship with St. Michel’s in Roche-a Bateau, Haiti, in addition to informing us on the impact of the recent hurricanes that have hit the island. You are invited to join Sr. Marie-Judith for coffee following the 7:30 and 9:00 Sunday Masses. Members of the St. Mary’s Haiti Committee will also be seeking your continued support for our monthly commitment of $800 to St. Michel’s.

SOS PRAYERS FOR HAITI

All are invited to join the Haitian Apostolate Ministry of the Diocese of Worcester and the parishes who have twinned with a parish or school in Haiti to join together in solidarity and prayer

St. Mary’s Church, Shrewsbury
Saturday, November 15, 2008
9:00 am – 12:00 noon

You may join us at whatever time is convenient for you. Bishop Robert McManus will celebrate Mass at 11:00 am. The Haitian community in the Boston area have been invited to join in this time of prayer. Thank-you for your ongoing care and support for the people of Haiti.

Feast of All Souls
Mass of Remembrance & Breakfast
Saturday, November 8th • 8:30 a.m.

In November, we set aside time to remember our brothers and sisters who have been called home to Christ. A memorial book will be placed on the altar, and parishioners are invited to write the names of their loved ones in it so that we can remember them at Mass throughout the month.

On Saturday, November 8th, the parish will also celebrate a special Mass of Remembrance at 8:30 a.m. The names of parishioners who have died this past year will be read and a candle will be lit in their memory. The names and candles will remain on the altar throughout November.

Immediately following Mass, the parish will host a breakfast in the parish hall. All are invited. Please RSVP to the pastoral center at 508.845.6341 by Monday, November 3rd if you plan on attending the breakfast.
