OUR ENDURING COVENANT - MAKE YOUR PLEDGE IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER
THANK-YOU to all those parishioners who have made their pledge to St. Mary’s Capital Campaign during the past few weeks. We have received 51 additional pledges which totaled $135,000. We ask parishioners who have not made their pledge to Our Enduring Covenant to please do so during the next few weeks. Soon we will be determining the scope of the building/renovation project which will begin in June of 2009.
ELECTION 2008 - FORMING CONSCIENCES FOR FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP
Why does the Catholic Church speak out on the moral aspects of political life?
The teaching role of the Catholic Church is rooted in the reality that every person has a conscience, and assumes that citizens want to act conscientiously, especially when justice and human rights are at stake. Forming one’s conscience “begins with a willingness and openness to seek the truth and what is right .”(#18) Catholic social teaching is based on “fundamental ethical principles that are common to all people.” (#55) Thus, by proposing answers touching on the moral dimensions of citizenship that appeal to human reason, the Church is not imposing its religion but instead is responding to every person’s inate desire to uphold the good, including in the public arena. A moral concern for the inviolable dignity of every human being is at the core of the Church’s social teaching.

Anointing of the Sick at Special Mass
Saturday, November 1, 2008 - 12:00 Noon
Scripture is filled with examples of Jesus extending his healing to those suffering with physical, emotional or spiritual ailments, and he called his followers to do the same. Indeed, in the 5th chapter of The Letter of James, we also read of this concern for the bodily and spiritual welfare of the sick when St. James wrote, “Are any among you sick? They should call on the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick... ...and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.”
St. Mary’s Parish will celebrate a special Mass for the Anointing of the Sick for all who seek healing, including but not limited to those acutely or chronically ill, facing surgery, or the frail elderly.
If you or a family member needs transportation to Mass on this day, please contact our Parish Nurse, Viola Jefferson, no later than October 27th at 508.925.7647.

I urge all in our diocesan family to share in the work of evangelization, offering your prayers and sacrifices through the Propagation of the Faith, for the Church¹s missionary efforts. Your generosity to the collection for the Propagation of the Faith next weekend will nurture the lives and faith of our brothers and sisters in 1,100 mission dioceses. It will also be a source of blessing for our own Diocese as we place evangelization at the heart of our life as Church. Sincerely yours in Christ, |
Feast of All Souls
Mass of Remembrance & Breakfast
Saturday, November 8th • 8:30 a.m.
In November, we set aside time to remember our brothers and sisters who have been called home to Christ. A memorial book will be placed on the altar, and parishioners are invited to write the names of their loved ones in it so that we can remember them at Mass throughout the month.
On Saturday, November 8th, the parish will also celebrate a special Mass of Remembrance at 8:30 a.m. The names of parishioners who have died this past year will be read and a candle will be lit in their memory. The names and candles will remain on the altar throughout November.
Immediately following Mass, the parish will host a breakfast in the parish hall. All are invited. Please RSVP to the pastoral center at 508.845.6341 by Monday, November 3rd if you plan on attending the breakfast.

Furniture and Household Goods Drive - Parking Lot near the Pastoral Center
To Benefit the Donations Clearinghouse
Saturday October 18, 2008 - 9 am- 12 pm
The Donations Clearinghouse and Saint Mary’s Social Justice Ministry are collecting furniture and household donations to help families and individuals leaving area shelters and transitional housing. The DCH is also committed to helping people with limited fixed incomes, fire or flood victims and the elderly.
With the rents in Worcester County on a rapid increase, families are faced with coming up with large sums of money to move into their new apartments, leaving them with empty and cold living arrangements for their children. With your help we can provide them with household necessities that will turn their new apartments into homes.
Please think about the household items you no longer use and bring them to Saint Mary’s on October 18, 2008 from 9 am to 12pm. If the items are too large or too heavy, please give the DCH a call at 508.791.7265 ext. 22 and arrange a free pickup of the items on a different day.
|
Items desperately needed are:
At this time we are NOT taking King Sized Beds or Sleep Sofas |
Your furniture, household donations and monetary contributions are all tax-deductible. Values of donations need to be determined by your tax accountant and yourself, to the fullest extent of the law. A tax-deductible receipt will be provided at the time of donation.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on October 18, 2008.
