Bible study - Did you ever wonder what the Bible’s book of Revelations is all about? The mystery and symbolism and message has stumped and frightened Christians for ages. To many it is a book of fire and brimstone and to others a wonderful promise of spending eternity with the God of our journey of life and faith. Passionist Father and Bible scholar, John O’Brien will lead us into an exciting study of Revelations on Monday mornings from 9:30-11:30 am in the Pastoral Center. We will continue this Monday, October 6. Come and bring a friend! Sue Landry

CONGRATULATIONS to the families and the children who were baptized during the month of September: Ava Cotton, Kendra Cygielnik, Emma Ellis, Kailey Flynn, Sean Griffin, Owen Guelcher, Zachary Johnson, Emma McNally, Ava O’Rourke, Troy Roberts, Bridget Sullivan, and Keira Ward.

Knitting Ministry

The next meeting of our prayer shawl ministry will be on October 18th at 10:30 in the Pastoral Center (rather than the usual second Saturday). We are now in our seventh year of ministry and invite anyone who is interested in what we do to join us then. Questions? Call Marti Page @ 508.835.3470.

Calling All Altar Servers!

The St. Mary’s parish family thanks you for your ministry! So many of you have shown yourselves to be reliable and knowledgeable servers. We would like to help you to be even better prepared for this important service to the parish. We invite you to come to an upcoming altar server workshop.

You can chose the day that works best for you. Thursday, October 9th, 4:30-6:00 p.m. or Friday, October 10th, 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Calling Those Who Would Like to Become Servers!

For young men and woman who wish to become altar servers, there will be a separate training workshop, the date of which will be announced in the weeks ahead. Those in 5th grade or older who would like to become an altar server are asked to sign-up for this at Masses this weekend or next. Sign-up sheets are available for this purpose in the sacristy and inside the main entrance of the church.

ADULT CONFIRMATION

For those who have been baptized and have received the Holy Eucharist but never went on to receive the great Sacrament of Confirmation, there is still time to be part of a program of Confirmation preparation being hosted by Fr. Adam throughout the fall. For more information about this please contact Fr. Adam by calling the pastoral center or by e-mailing him at reida@stmarysparish.org.

OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH
HOPE AND TRUST IN LIFE

Today as we celebrate RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY we are reminded that as Catholic Christians we are called to promote a deeper respect for the dignity and sacredness of human life from conception until natural death. In April 2008 during his pastoral visit to the United States, Pope Benedict XVI said, “The Church is called to proclaim the gift of life, to serve life, and to promote a culture of life. This is the message of hope we are called to proclaim and embody in a world where self-centeredness, greed, violence, and cynicism so often seem to choke the fragile growth of grace in people’s hearts.” By letting the love of Jesus Christ permeate our lives and actions in defense of our vulnerable brothers and sisters, we can transform our nation, building a culture where all people can again hope and trust in life!

The 17th Annual Life Chain will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 3:30 pm rain or shine at White City Plaza in Shrewsbury. Signs will be available. Provide a public witness to our community that the destruction of human life in the womb by abortion is a terrible evil which kills babies and wounds their mothers. Join us.

Save the Date! Furniture Drive – Sat. Oct. 18 - 9:00 am to noon – On Saturday Oct. 18, St. Mary’s will hold our Annual Furniture Drive to help families leaving shelters or who are struggling economically. Most needed items: beds, mattresses and box springs, dressers and bureaus, kitchen sets, living room furniture, coffee and end tables, lamps, pots and pans, and sets of dishes. Our donations will be distributed free of charge by Donations Clearinghouse.

Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Mathew 5:16

Shining Stars

An opportunity for parishioners to recognize other parishioners for their stewardship actions and deeds. Do you want to say ‘thanks’ or acknowledge a parish member for being a good steward by using their time, talent or treasure to serve others? You may recognize an individual, a family, a couple, a teenager or child - all recognitions are anonymous but we ask you to include your name and phone number for any clarifications, if necessary. Click here for a nomination form (after the form is displayed in your web browser, print it out and fill it in).
