Dear Friends, This weekend, as Thanksgiving Day approaches, college students are longing to return home and many others are finalizing their travel plans in order to be with family and special friends. As we prepare for and celebrate thanksgiving this year, let us take time to give thanks to our God who has blessed all of us in so many ways. |
Please join us for two special opportunities this week when we will come together as a Christian community to express our gratitude. The Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service for all the people in the town of Shrewsbury will be held this Sunday evening at 7:00 pm in the chapel at Calvary Retreat Center. On Thanksgiving Day the Liturgy Committee has planned a special Mass at 8:30 am. Gathering around the Table of the Lord at the Eucharist is the best way that we as Catholic Christians can express our gratitude to God. It sets the tone and gives new meaning to all the traditions that will follow that day.
Along with Fr. Manny and the staff of St. Mary’s Parish and School, I extend to you and all of your family our best wishes and prayers for a grateful and joyful Thanksgiving Day.
Fr. Mike

A PARTNERSHIP
St. Mary’s Parish, Shrewsbury, MA
&
St. Michel’s Parish, Roche-a-Bateau, Haiti
Thank-you to all those who responded so generously to last week’s collection for our sister-parish in Haiti. We are grateful to Deacon Peter Faford for his words of invitation and encouragement. His presence at the Worcester Diocesan Mission House in Les Cayes will enable us to have more regular communication with Fr. Brutus Gulber, pastor of St. Michel’s. Thank-you to our parish Haiti Mission Team for inviting Deacon Peter and for their leadership in this important ministry in our community Joe Cantin, Joe Arcabascio, Lynn Perreault and Mike Thibodeau.
Since 1994 St. Mary’s has extended a helping hand to St. Michel’s in Roche-a-Bateau in Haiti. Through our partnership sometimes called our “twinning project” we provide $800 a month in support to this very large parish in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
A Couple of Facts: St. Michel’s consists of nine chapels some accessible only by foot or horseback. Each community has its own school offering the only education available to most of the children. In May 2006, Rev. Brutus Gulber, the pastor of St. Michel’s visited St. Mary’s to thank us for our help This month is another opportunity to revisit and renew our individual and parish commitment.
Join us in our ongoing efforts to serve the people of Haiti. Just return this information to the Pastoral Center through the mail or Sunday collection.

CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
This week’s second collection is for the support of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development which helps people rise above the poverty line by funding programs that focus on the root causes of poverty. CCHD is committed to helping people change the conditions that keep them living in a state of poverty. These compassionate projects in our diocese and throughout the U.S. support low-income people as they work together to improve educational opportunities, create jobs, and improve access to services for the disabled. Thank-you for your generous support.
