Prayer by Hans Kung

From a book by Hans Kung called Der Islam

Hidden, eternal, immeasurable, merciful God.
Besides whom there is no other God.
You are great and worthy of all praise.
Your force and grace holds the universe!
You, God of trust and of no falsity,
of justice and truth,
Have elected Abraham your loyal servant
To be the father over many peoples
And have spoken through the Prophets
Hallowed be your Name and
praised in all the world,
Your Will be done, wherever men exist.
Living and benevolent God, hear our prayer:
Our misdeeds have grown immensely.
Forgive us, children of Abraham, our strife,
Our enmities, our trespasses against one another.
Redeem us from all needs and give us peace.
Bless, Master of our fate,
The heads and captains of states,
That they may not lust for power and renown,
But act responsibly for the well being
and peace of mankind.
May you lead our religious communities
and their rulers,
So that they not only proclaim the
message of peace,
But live it themselves.
To all of us, however, and also to those
not of our faith,
Give us of your Grace, mercy and goodness
And lead us, God of the living,
On the right road into your everlasting Glory.
